SCAM STOPPERS

The best advice regarding scams like those in the article “Sunshine, Pickleball ... and Scams?” [“Fraud 2026: Your Guide to Spotting Scams,” March/April] is “Just hang up” or “Just shut off your computer.” Scammers are now targeting people in hospitals! A nurse told me unsolicited calls are made to phones in occupied rooms, and the hospital can’t stop them. What a pain!

I have one simple and effective strategy to avoid scams like those detailed in your cover package and, in fact, save money in many different ways: If I truly need or want a product or service, I go find it. If the product or service has to find me—whether it be via the internet, TV, mail or wherever—I must not need it, and I just ignore the solicitation.

LESS MESS

The article “30 Days to a Decluttered Home” [March/April] suggests throwing out expired medications. But they should be disposed of properly: recycled at local pharmacies. They should not be put into the regular trash, as their chemicals can find their way into groundwater and create health hazards.

ALIENATED BY AI

The article “Should You Take High-Tech Shortcuts at Work?” [March/April] touched on some issues with artificial intelligence but in my opinion did not go far enough. It is my belief that AI should not be allowed in business, academics or—most importantly—in our military. It is not reliable enough to be trusted.

SAVE A BUCK

I have another tip to go along with the article “Drugstore Grocery Deals” [March/April]. Many offer a discount for seniors on certain days of the week. These usually apply to regularly priced items in store or online and sometimes require a code.
